Cleaning Tips for Tenants
Tuesday 8th February 2022
On most occasions, Tenants choose to do their own end of tenancy cleaning, although there is no issue with that, however there are a few things that you may want to know.
Below are a few tips from our specialists:
1. The return of your security deposit depends highly on the condition of the proeprty once the tenancy has ended.
2. As a Tenant, you are required by your Landlord or Agent to undergo your own cleaning, unless there is a specific clause on your Tenancy Agreement that states otherwise. Depending on the Landlord, there are instances where you would be required to have the curtains and carpets professionally cleaned.
3. Tenants must be made aware of the length of time it takes to carry out a full deep clean at the property.
4. If the Landlord paid for a professional clean prior to the start of your tenancy, the Landlord or Agent will request that the end of clean is of the same level - where the standard of the clean would have been outlined on the inventory report prior to you moving into the property.
5. Tenants have the right to choose whether they wish to carry out their own cleaning or use an independant company, as long as the property is left in the same condition as it was found.
6. Should the tenant choose to this alone, they must be made aware that the standard of the clean will be noted and compared with the inventory report. Should the clerk state that the clean is not of a professional standard, the Tenant will risk having some deductions made from their deposit in order to cover an additional end of tenancy clean.
7. If the property is managed by the letting agent, it would be their assessment on whether any deductions should be made from your deposit. Should the agent propose deductions that you deem to be unfair, the Tenant must make sure that the Tenancy Agreement does not state that they are required to organise professional cleaners to undergo an end of tenancy clean as opposed to doing it themselves, which would result in their claim not being approved.
